Vollan Ochieng

What I do:

Lead integrated knowledge, impact, and data systems by designing and overseeing knowledge management frameworks, impact measurement tools, dashboards, and evidence repositories that support organizational learning and strategy

Translate data and research into actionable insights through synthesis, visualization, and production of user-friendly knowledge products that inform program adaptation, advocacy, and leadership decisions

Drive responsible innovation and capacity building by introducing AI-enabled tools, strengthening data governance, and building staff capacity in data literacy, evidence use, and ethical AI adoption

Background

Vollan has contributed to education research and program design across 13 Sub-Saharan African countries and has authored and co-authored 33 peer-reviewed publications, reflecting deep expertise in applied research that informs policy and practice. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Monitoring and Evaluation at the University of Nairobi, focusing on how M&E practices influence EdTech project performance in Kenya, a pathway that directly informs his leadership in evidence, impact, and learning at Mizizi Elimu Afrika.

Advice I'd give my 8-year-old self:

"When you feel afraid, confused, or stuck, remember that small efforts still matter, and what feels impossible today will one day become proof that you were stronger than you knew."
