Advancing Holistic Learning Through Life Skills and Values Education

The Action for Life Skills and Values in East Africa (ALiVE) program continued strengthening holistic learning across schools and communities by supporting the integration of life skills and values within teaching and learning processes.

Currently reaching 164 schools in Kenya, 424 teachers, and approximately 70,000 learners, the program is contributing to improved learner confidence, self-expression, and positive behavior change.

Schools are increasingly adopting practical and context-responsive approaches such as Values of the Week initiatives, learner mentorship structures, peer champions, and stronger school-community engagement practices.

One headteacher noted that every learner in the school is paired with a teacher mentor, while another observed growing confidence and self-expression among learners as life skills become embedded within everyday school experiences.

Through Communities of Practice and stronger collaboration between schools, educators, and communities, the program continues to demonstrate that foundational learning extends beyond literacy and numeracy to include the values, relationships, and competencies that enable learners to thrive.
